Key Person Approach

Key Person Approach

At Little 1 Nursery we believe 'relationships with key people lay the foundations of young children's learning and development'.

We have developed and adapted our practice to comply with a Key Person approach which is a requirement of the EYFS.

A Key Person will:

  • Observe key children and plan for their likes, interests and individual needs using online learning journal
  • Communicate with Parents/ carers and keep them informed of their child's progress through discussions, meetings and online journal
  • Develop secure and trusting relationships with key children and their families
  • Ensure the child's physical needs are met by key person or another familiar practitioner
  • Carry out Home Visits for key children when they start nursery and as requested during times when they need additional support. e.g new baby, moving house, change in family circumstances (on hold due to pandemic)
  • Apply all personal care routines such as bottle feeding or nappy changing
  • Hold transition meetings when children are moving on from the Nest to Preschool, parents will be invited to look around the preschool room and meet the child's new key person in the few weeks leading up to the move.
