Nest and Preschool

The Nest

The Nest is a fully functioning inside outside, continuous provision room, with the children ranging from 3 months to 2 and a half years.

We thrive on the ethos of having the younger babies being surrounded with a mixed age group of children, being able to watch them play and learn from them. Equally the 'toddler' aged children enjoy interacting with babies and helping the key people look after them.

At mealtimes the children sit at small tables, this enables them to interact with each other and makes it as social as possible. We encourage independence through meal times, with a member of staff being close by for guidance and assistance.

We aim to promote independence, well-being and positive self-esteem in all children through the key person approach, which will then prepare them for their transition up to Pre-school.

We estimate children will move up to Pre-school between the ages of to 2 years to 2 and a half years,  although this is individual to each child.

We find there are many benefits to having mixed age groups together, these include;

  • Children will have only one transition between rooms (The Nest to Pre-School)
  • Meet requirement of EYFS
  • Meet individual needs of children
  • Incorporate individual routines
  • Develop our Key person approach
  • Enabling scaffolding, the children will have their needs met with each activity, no matter what age
  • Free flow access to outdoor provision

The Preschool

Toddlers and young children learn and play together in our Pre-school room, just as they would in a home environment with their siblings.

Children have access to garden at all times throughout the day through our continous provision.

In Pre-school we:

  • Free flow through each room and the outdoor provision
  • Meet requirements of EYFS
  • Have a strong Key Person approach
  • Encourage children's independence in decision making
  • Meet the individual needs of children
